Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I don’t meet the age requirements, can I still apply?
A: The Upwind scholarship is targeted to high school juniors but we would encourage any high school student to apply.

Q: I live some distance from San Carlos Airport, can I still apply?
A: The flight and ground training will be conducted at the San Carlos Airport. If you can arrange for transportation to and from San Carlos we would encourage you to apply. During the 9-week flight training portion of the program, the program begins at 9:00 am in the morning and continues until 5:00 pm during the weekdays. Please keep this in mind as you consider whether to apply.

Q: I have a few days during the summer that I have another conflict. Can I still apply for the program?
A: The program is really demanding. We have found that individuals that have other commitments during the 9-week program are not able to keep up with the demands of the program. We know you have many demands on your time but you should consider this a full time commitment during the summer.

Q: Where should I direct my teachers to send their Letter of Recommendations? Should I attach it to my application or should I have them send it directly to Upwind?
A: You can attach them to your application or the teacher can email them to scholarship@upwindscholarship.com.
